Prior to establishing Morpurgo Architects,

as Associate Partner at Armand Bartos Associates,

Gus was Project Architect for the firm’s Central Islip State Hospital.

This Health and Hospital Corporation initiative provides interim services
to assist patients with mental health problems

make the transition from a hospital environment to congregate housing.

Through built-form, Gus and the Bartos team designed

an architectural environment that facilitates

the healing of the mentally disabled.
