BROKEN CHORD HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL

“Broken Chord” is a memorial of hope and darkness,

a testament to moments of human dignity adrift in a sea of cruelty.

Seven chords reach toward one another, barely connecting to complete one arch.

Arches rise and set above the ocean, marking dark days and the bright dawn.

The flight of the chords evokes the ephemeral rainbow, symbol of memory,

arching skyward before disappearing from sight. It is a sign of the universal covenant:

never again would the flood devastate the earth.

Loss and promise are embedded in the rainbow’s optic light,

reflecting a duality of life:

beauty that survives the darkest hours.

“Broken Chord” affirms the paradox of harmony and disjuncture,

as individual notes testify to lost accord.

Six fragmented chords shelter memory and release fractured names

scattered beneath arched wings.

Anchored in shifting sand, one tenuously completed arch,

reminder of the fragility of our presence, glows eternal.

Gus designed this memorial with Architect Gavri Slasky.
